Covid-19 has impacted the world in unprecedented ways many generations have never experienced before and perhaps may never again. In more recent times, Hawaii, in particular has seen positive covid cases and deaths soar at alarming rates and unemployment for both individuals and businesses skyrocket; therefore, making Hawaii the state with the highest unemployment rate in the nation at one point this summer. (In July, Hawaii’s unemployment rate was recorded at 7.7%) Hawaii has since been replaced as the highest, yet remains in the top 12.
On September 4, 2021, federal unemployment benefits ended and many individuals and businesses were affected. Programs affected by the demise of the benefits were:
-Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC)
-Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA)
-Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC)
-Mixed Earners Unemployment Compensation (MEUC)
Only regular unemployment insurance remains.
